Part of the Kanawha City area and iPlayOutside for over 7 years, The Run with a Cop 5K is here to stay. . The 5K boasts of promoting fitness, cardiovascular health, confidence, discipline, self-esteem, and fun among the cops and participants alike,

Donating proceeds to the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics and the Kanawha County Special Olympics, this local favorite has generated friendly competition in the neighborhood by awarding a trophy to the individual or group who collects the highest amount of monies for the cause. Awards also went to the overall finishers of course, along with trophies awarded to the top three Law Enforcement finishers.

In Charleston on Saturday, about 100 runners were lucky enough to trotting along with some of the area's finest. The Run With a Cop course is a flat and fast out-and-back in Kanawha City. The course winds along the residental area behind Charleston Area Medical Center's Memorial Hospital, hugging the Kanawha River and taking runners past several stately homes that overlook the river.

For the second year in a row, 16-year-old Chelsea Jarvis (20:35) is lucky she didn't get a ticket. Jarvis got out quick and never looked back. "I'm happy with my time," said the Wapiti Runners Club phenom.

Youth was also served for the number two spot with the ladies, as 12-year-old Makayla Shamblin came in at 21:01. Jodi Ferguson (21:53).

For the men, Zach Noel took the top spot.

Racers enjoyed plenty of free parking, and emergency personnel at every corner. The flat course through low-traffic areas wound its way through the neighborhood that borders Charleston's WVU Medical Building. Out-and-back, fast, and known to have some personal records the course usually has the first three runners coming in under 17 minutes,
