WVMBA News Letter: JAN
A Series Update from WVMBA's Executive Director, J.R. Petsko

Yes, there is snow outside, but here at WVMBA we have singletrack on the mind. In just two short months, mountain bike racing will return to the hills of West Virginia.

Kicking off the season this year will be the Wilderness Challenge on April 5th in Logan, WV. This event will be perfect to help get you back in form before the WVMBA Points Series starts on April 19th at Big Bear Lake.

Also don't forget to get your team signed up on bikereg.com for the 12 hours of Creek to Peak.

2009 Fun Rides

If racing is not your cup of tea then you are in luck because the WVMBA Fun Rides have returned for 2009. This year a new ride, the Shingle Tree Shuffle has been added to the list, plus the Tour de Lilly has turned into the Davis Fun Ride Weekend. This ride will include two days of organized rides, group camping and hopefully a good time had by all. Best of all, it's free!

Benefits of Being a Member

Individual testing is $50 per person. They do group rates at $350 for 10 people ($35 per person). Feel free to call them for more information.

Sign-Up Online

Don't forget to help keep lines short at registration this year by signing up for your 2009 WVMBA membership online now at WVMBA.com.

By signing up now, you will save time and paper, and you will have your membership card waiting for you at the first event. Also for a limited time only, you can pre-order a WVMBA cycling jersey on WVMBA.com. The order placed with the manufacturer of these jerseys was small and they are sure to sell out fast, so make sure to check them out on the site and order yours while they last.

League of American Bicyclists Comes to WV

As you may know, WV came in last in a recent report put out by the League of American Bicyclists of bike friendly states. As a result, Kim Broughton and several cyclists from around the state decided it is time to do something, so she called the League and asked if they could help. Their response was an enthusiastic YES!

The League of American Bicyclists (http://www.bikeleague.org/) is coming to Charleston, WV on April 18, 2009 to meet with cyclists interested in advancing the state of cycling in WV. We are so excited! The date was confirmed last week and Kim is working on the details now. The meeting is tentatively scheduled to be held at the Civic Center.

We welcome all who are interested in participating!

To stay up on the news as it is developed, please sign up for our mailing list. We are excited to keep you posted on what is going on! Please forward this message to all interested parties.

If you cannot come, still sign up to get on our mailing list for future updates. Please contact Kim Broughton if you have questions e-mail Kim at kimberlyjoshi@gmail.com

Thank you and see you out there!
