Rematch in the Country
Story and photos by Daniel Todd.
The Poca River Run is one of those races that gets bigger and better every year. The simple loop course at the end of Doc Bailey Road steals views of the Poca River from both sides. Rolling asphalt greets runners right from the start, which was not too hot for this year's contest.
Today brought a rematch at a different distance for Jason Pyles and Caleb Bowen. Finishing first and third at last week's Komen 5K, Bowen bested Pyles, but at triple the distance, Pyles finished a full minute in front of his metro valley rival. Pyles grabbed the stick with a time of 50:13 and Bowen followed at 51:13. Nick Bias is always near the front and today he was third across the line with a 55:04.
The ladies were also in a back to back weekend rematch. Allison Cox and Maria Busienei met again at the line. Busienei stayed on course this year but still finished 2nd to Cox's 59:25. A 1:04:07 was good for 2nd place. Robin Weiner followed in 3rd place with a 1:11:47.
You're never old when you run the Poca River Run, but somebody has to be the fastest Master. Today that title goes to John Reynolds and Ann Hall who finished with times of 57:57 and 1:11:47, respectively.
A special thanks to race director, Kelly McGraw and Tallman Track Club timer, WK Munsey who continue to make small adjustments to this race.
Poca River is the spring road race to run in the valley. Be sure to add this run to your 2013 race calendar. To find other great races in the Metro Valley and the rest of the tri-state search iPlayOutside's extensive multi-sport event calendar.
