The start of a 5K Run
The Annual Bridgeport Benedum Festival hosted the Hardee's 5K Run through the residential streets located nearby the Bridgeport city schools. It was a beautiful, although humid, morning for a run and a turn-out some more than four times the expected was received at the race. Race coordinators had expected to have a very small turn-out with most runners choosing to run in the much larger Fairmont 10K, but were happily surprised when more than 115 runners turned out for the Bridgeport event.
Racing for a trophy or a PR?
Although the official 5K walk was canceled at a late date, many walkers chose to enter as runners and walk the course regardless. One such walker finished with a respectable time of 28 minutes, completing the course ahead of many runners. Race coordinators put on a very nice event with lots of water and juice as well as oranges available to all runners after the race. Trophies were awarded to overall placements and age group categories.

Overall Winner, Andy Clump, crosses the finish line.
Just 18 minutes and 32 seconds after the official start, Andy Clump finished the 5K race to assume the overall male first place title. He was soon after followed by John Baker with a time of 18:45. Third place went to Jeff Wright (19:21).
2nd place women, Mary Mlinarik
Zaia Wharton claimed the overall female first place position with 21st place overall finish and a time of 21:45. She was followed by second place female, Mary Mlinarik (22:43) and third place, Julie Zickefoose (23:28).
