1999 Greenbrier Trail Bike Trek
Riders pull together for a great cause
The 2000 Greenbrier Trail Bike Trek, May 19-21, raised more than $50,000 to benefit the programs of the American Lung Association of West Virginia. Ninety riders participated in this year's event. While the number of riders did not quite break the record, the amount raised topped the previous high by about $10,000!

The Winner's Club, made up of participants who raise more than $500, was the largest group ever with 26 high fund raisers. Robert Craft of Pineville was the top fund raiser for the third year in a row. By himself, Robert raised more than $4,400! As his reward, Robert took home a romantic weekend package for two at the Historic Blennerhassett Hotel in Parkersburg. The Greenbrier resort and many state bed and breakfasts, bike shops and others contributed the great items that made this year's prize list by far the best ever.

While Friday's ride was more than a little bit soggy, the weather cleared up (as it tends to do at this event) as the ride wore on. Saturday's cool weather made for a comfortable ride for the longest leg of the trek -- 45 miles from Marlinton to Anthony.

The Greenbrier River Trail Bike Trek was an exciting three-day mountain bike excursion combining unforgettable mountain scenery with unique sights of the Greenbrier River Trail. Biking experience at this event ranged from beginner to expert. The necessary equipment was a fat-tire bike & the desire to have a great time.
