Dash for Dialysis
Mike Guinn wins again
With the impending doom of dark clouds filling the western sky, the Dash for Dialysis 8K Run took to the streets of Elkins on Saturday, May 13th, for some friendly running competition. Those dark clouds did nothing to dampen the spirits of anyone, and as all the racers stretched and warmed up at Elkins River Bend Park just before the start, some sunshine occasionally broke through, sharing some of it's late spring warmth.

The out-and-back 8K course took runners along southern Elkins on scenic rural roads, dishing out an occasional hill just to keep the heart rate up. From the very start, Mike Guinn(27:36) jumped out in front, and never looked back as he rolled easily to a first place finish.

Rebecca Schoonover makes it look easy
Guinn kept a 5:33 per mile pace without breaking a sweat, and his closest competitor was John Riffle(32:06), some 4 1/2 minutes back. Riffle and Todd Schoonover(32:23) were battling though, but at the finish, Riffle's 6:27 per mile pace earned him second place overall, with Schoonover finishing third.

The fastest female on the course this day was Rebecca Schoonover(33:56), finishing a fast 6th overall. Debbie Goss(41:55) finished second for the ladies, with Misha Phillips(44:14) taking third. Goss and Phillips finished 12th and 14th overall, respectively.

Afterwards, there were plenty of tasty refreshments for that post-race appetite, plus all the proceeds from this race go to benefit the Central West Virginia Dialysis Patient Fund.
