Greg Edgell finishes in front
Saturday morning in the friendly town of Buckhannon was much like everywhere else in West Virginia... hot and humid. While some may only think of propping their feet up and enjoying the air conditioning, quite a few took to the streets and trails for the West Virginia Wesleyan/Buckhannon Upshur County Chamber of Commerce 5K.

The 3.1 mile course started on the lush grounds of the Wesleyan Campus by doing a lap on the 1 mile Buckhannon River Walk Trail surrounding the soccer and softball fields, then ventured out to the streets of Buckhannon before looping back to the start and finishing on the same paved trail. Roughly half of the paved loop runs along the Buckhannon River, and the shade provided by the trees lining the river's banks was a definite plus.

There was also a kids fun run, and a 1 mile kids run that took the young speedsters along the river trail.

The fastest runner on this muggy day was Greg Edgell(18:33). It wasn't all clear sailing for Edgell, though. At the beginning, Jonas Anderson(20:10) sprinted out to a lead and held onto until just after the midway point, when Edgell held onto his steady pace to pass Anderson and cruise to a win, just over 1/2 minute ahead of second place finisher Todd Schoonover(19:10).

The fastest female on the course was Rebecca Schoonover(19:28), who also finished third overall, and over two minutes of the next female Rosanne Siggia-Walker(21:44).

In the 5K walk, it was Glen Knotts(39:16) getting the win, and in the 1 mile Kid's Run, 11 year-old Bryant Cummings(6:37) held on to a 15 second lead to take the checkered flag, with 11 year-old Daniel Mason(6:52) finishing second.

Thanks go out to Jesse Skiles, Bob Skinner, and all the folks who helped make this race an enjoyable event.
