The Start
Letting it all hang out... after midnight
"After midnight, we're gonna let it all hang out." Hey, if Eric Clapton said it's okay, then why not give it a try. We may not remember it in the morning, but you will know you had a good time.

And a good time was had by all who were lucky enough to participate in the 3rd annual Midnight Madness Race in Summersville West Virginia. It was a great night, and a great time for a race.

The course, which loops around the North Ridge Center off Route 19 was "flat and fast" and with only a small hill to challenge the racers.

Taking turns passing each other under the fluorescent street lamps were Oak Hill's Larry Taylor and Beckley native James Kneeland. "Back and forth" the entire race, Kneeland managed to best Taylor and put in a time of 16:29. Kneeland, who has run in every moonlight madness race, was going so fast that the Summersville PD gave him a ticket. Imagine that. Taylor, fresh off the Clarksburg race, commented that running both races did slow him down, but said that Kneeland "ran well." Rounding out the top three, Jonathan Calhoun put in a time of 16:46.

Racing through the night
For the ladies, Jessica Taylor showed pops a thing or two about how to finish a race. Taylor (19:17) took over out of the gates and never looked back, finishing a full 4 minutes before any other women. Marth Drinkard, posting strong numbers, pulled in at 23:18. Grabbing the number three spot was Lindsay Grove.

Everybody did let it all hang out, just like Eric said. Camille Ramsey, of Summerville had the best running gear late night Nicholas County has ever seen. Clarksburg might have been the biggest race in the state, but The Moonlight Madness 5K definitely takes the cake for originality. A WVOutside/iPlayOutside shout goes to everybody who reads this and forgives me for not having enough pictures. My camera was very uncooperative.
