Wild DAWG Alumni 5K
Getting ready in Huntington
Kicking off the Thundering Herd's Homecoming weekend was the 5th Annual Wild Dawg Alum 5K run this Saturday in downtown Huntington. As the sun peered over the horizon, runners from around the area emerged to enjoy a quick flat 3.1 mile run through the streets of downtown and past the now quiet Thundering Herd Football Stadium, soon to be full of shouting and cheering fans in green and white looking for a victory over Kent State.

As the gun fired and the 233 runners, the largest ever, hit the pavement, Casey Batey(14:15), a Marshall University Cross County Track member took an early lead over fellow team mates. Batey captured the overall male finish with an impressive lead of 1:17 over the second place finisher Dave Lyle (15:32). Ben Redman, Marshall University Alumni and St. Albans High School Track Coach finished with a time of 15:56 for a third place finish.

Other special awards were award to the following, youngest runner Justin Smith(24:20), oldest runner John Thompson(22:01), Marshall Staff finishers, David Lootens(22:58) and Carla Chapman(25:30), Marshall Faculty finisher Ron Martino(20:37), Marshall student finishers, Dan Newnan(17:56) and Kristy Gibson(23:30). Even the two golden retrievers received a Wild Dawg award for their efforts.

The Wild Dawg Alum Run is sponsored by the Marshall University Alumni Association, Marshall R.O.T.C., and Marshall University Division of Health, The Huntington Track Club and DAWG Radio. Congratulations to all the award winners, runners and race workers for a job well done. And three cheers for the Marshall Thundering Herd Football Team for their victory over Kent State, final score 34-12.
