Let's Get Dirty 5K
Just having some fun in the mud
The Let's Get Dirty 5K is undoubtedly the muddiest, muckiest, incredibly crazy 5K Fun Run & Cross Country Race in Western Pennsylvania, and possibly the entire east coast!

Modeled after European XC, it's course is 3.1 miles of fields, hills, logs, woods, creeks, and of course... mud. A challenging series of obstacles stood in the way, including racers lodged in the muck, who resembled the logs themselves. Like a herd of cattle, runners made their way through it all like top-notch troopers, practically trampling each other at times, but laughing all the way to the finish line.

Drew Weishaar flies across the water with ease
Over 200 runners lined up for the open 5K race on a chilly Saturday morning. Racers from Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia battled the course, and each other, with one familiar face leading most of the 3.1 mile cross country trek. It was the winner of the 2000 Bobcat Classic Open, Drew Weishaar, who pulled out in front once again, and never looked back. Weishaar has been a strong XC force and finished first overall in the Let's Get Dirty with a time of 18:28.

The first female to finish was from Monroeville, PA. Young Carly Labuff held quite a lead over her competition to finish 1st overall for the women in 25 minutes, and 3 seconds.

Let's Get Dirty 5K
Gettin' down and dirty!
After the excitement from the first race was over, it was time for the FUN RUN. This unique race had many, many college, and high school participants. The Fun XC race was run on the same course, but this time the trails were made even more slippery, and obviously even more difficult. Hundreds of screaming teens paraded through the creeks and mud slides with their proud parents video taping all of the hilarious action.

This was certainly a family event, and all proceeds benefitted the Slippery Rock Cross Country Team. Thumbs up to those SRU XC Teammates who worked so hard to make this event a great success once again.
