Can you smell the barn?
Tim Marshall, a Securities Trader, made quick work of the Barn Again 5K this morning. "I wish there would have been someone to push me as I think I could have run faster," stated the 37 year-old Winchester resident. "By the last mile, I was just trying to not fall apart." Marshall really didn't have to worry even if he did fall apart as his finish time of 16:39 saw him finish nearly a minute up on second place finisher Mark Vann (17:26).

For the women, Powhatan School Teacher Ann Robb took the lead at one mile and held it all the way to the finish. "There was 2 boys from my school just ahead of me and that inspired me to try and run faster. I tried to catch them but they managed to stay ahead of me in the last mile," explained the mother of 2 young boys. Robb finished in 20:32 while second place went to 12 year-old Beth Dickey with a time of 21:03.

Setting the sites on the finish
Kathy Manzo ran 22:45 to take the women's master award while yours truly ran 18:03 for the men's master crown.

There were 101 finishers in the race, which was held on a cloudy and humid morning. Sponsored by Downtown Berryville, Inc. and the Shenandoah Valley Runners, the race was held to raise money for the restoration of the barns located in Rose Hill Park, which is where the race was staged. The awards ceremony was held at the Gazebo in the park and prizes consisted of stuffed animals along with shirts and Christmas ornaments for the overall and master winners. All finishers munched on granola bars and swigged bottled water during the awards ceremony. Race Director Celeste Heath did a very nice job with the race and is to be commended for putting on a fine event.
