Big Sandy Downriver Race (iPO Event Id#: 3405)

[Coverage]

In conjunction with [Cheat Canyon Downriver Race] & the [Cheat River Festival]

The biggest news of this year's Cheat Festival is the planned race down the lower Big Sandy. The lower Big Sandy is one of West Virginia's classic whitewater runs. Home to a 20 ' waterfall, tricky rapids, and the always fearsome "Big Splat", no race has ever been attempted on this stretch of whitewater.

This year all contestants in the Cheat race will be given free entry into the Big Sandy race. The starting time is planned for the following morning, Saturday, May 5th.

Note: Due to the Big Sandy being dependent on rainfall, the final determination of this event will take place the night before. At this time, details have not been finalized for how the event will be held. Right now, there is a slight leaning towards having two divisions, one group running Big Splat and a second group walking it. In addition, the tentative format for now is to have a mass start.
