All You Need to Know about the XTERRA Series...

Big Sponsors in a large series: Yahoo! Sports & XTERRA Gear will present the XTERRA 2001 USA Noational Championship Series. This series will double the total number of XTERRA racing opportunities for amateur competitors. This year there will be 18 total events. Fifteen XTERRA Point Series Races of which the ACE Big Canyon Off Road Triathlon is part of, and 3 XTERRA Regional Championship Races. One in Richmond, VA, one in Keystone, CO, and one in Half Moon Bay, CA. All of these events lead to the last road in Lake Tahoe, NV where the XTERRA USA National Championship will take place.

Big Money up for grabs in the XTERRA Series: A $100,000 purse will be awarded to leading Pro Finishers, $10,00 at each of the 3 Regional Championships. $20,000 will be awarded at the USA National Championship, with $50,000 going to the XTERRA USA Points Series highest point scorers over the course of the season.

Here's how the XTERRA Series works:
Competitors earn points at races in their region. The highest-scoring athletes in each age group will be invited to compete at the XTERRA USA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, where they will be crowned USA NATIONAL AGE GROUP CHAMPION.

You'll have three opportunities to gather points in your region. One, is the XTERRA National Championship Tour stop. The other two are affiliate races, which award fewer points than the National Championship Tour Stop races.

After the tri-series is over in your region, the top male and female age groupers will be crowned REGIONAL CHAMPIONS. They, and other top finishers will move on to the USA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP and compete for the USA NATIONAL AGE GROUP title.
