Do you need an Entry Form for the Iron Furnace 5K?

Time and Place:
The George's Creek Promotion Council presents the 13th Annual Iron Furnace 5k Run and 1.5 mile fun run/walk, Saturday, June 23, 2001 at 8:00 A.M. in Lonaconing, MD.

Course:
The Iron Furnace Run will begin at George's Creek Elementary School, which is situated 1 mile north of Lonaconing on Md. Rt. 36. The point to point course will be run along George's Creek, through the streets of Lonaconing, and finish at the historic Iron Furnace on the north end of town. The course is mostly flat with a short hill at mile1, and a half-mile slope at the 2-mile marker.

Registration:
Entrants should pre-register by mail prior to the June 16 deadline. Fee is $13.00. Checks should be made payable to: George's Creek Promotion Council. Entries postmarked after that date must be accompanied by the late registration fee of $15.00. Race day registration will be held from 7:00 to 7:45 A.M. at George's Creek School.

Fun Run/Walk:
A 1.5-mile fun run/walk will be held simultaneously with the 5k event beginning at 8:00 AM. Registration procedure is the same as the main event.

General Information:
Splits will be given at 1 and 2 miles. Water will be available at two points along the course. Medical personnel will be available. Transportation will be provided back to the starting line after the race. Water, soft drinks, and other liquid refreshments will be available at Furnace Park. The Iron Furnace 5k averages 140 finishers.

Directions:
From the North, take I68 to Frostburg, MD. Take Exit 34 south. Follow MD Rt. 36 for 7 miles to George's Creek School. From the South, MD Rt. 135 to Westernport, MD. Take MD Rt. 36 north to Lanaconing, George's Creek School is 1 mile north of town.

Parking:
Some parking will be available at George's Creek Elementary School. Bus transportation will be provided for runners and spectators back to their vehicles after the race. Runners should plan to arrive one hour prior to race time.

Awards:
All registered runners will receive a beautifully designed T-shirt. Plaques will be presented to the first three finishers in each age division. The top male and female finishers in the open and the masters will receive $100 savings bonds.

After the Race:
After awards plaques are presented, a random drawing for numerous valuable door prizes will be in Furnace Park. You must be present to win. Refreshments will be provided after the awards ceremony and drawing.
