On June 2, 2002 ACE Adventure Center welcomes back the Big Canyon Off-Road Triathlon, a Nissan Xterra Points Series Race and a USA Triathlon sanctioned event. Each athlete must complete a 1.5-swim, 7-mile run, and 13-bike course in order to finish the race. The triathlon starts deep in the heart of West Virginia on the mighty New River.

The athletes will begin the swim portion of the race at the National Park Service's Stone Cliff Access located near the historic town of Thurmond and exit 1.5 miles down stream. From there, they will don their running shoes and begin the 7-mile run, climbing out of the gorge 1,000 vertical feet to ACE Adventure Center. There, the racers will switch gears yet again to begin a 13-mile mountain bike loop around the 1,400 acre trail system we call ACE Adventure Center.
