Downhill racing in the snow
Kicking off the 2003 Winterblast Celebration at Wisp was a rare spectacle. Mixed in with those going down the snowy slopes on skies, snowboards, snowblades, and even inner tubes, there was a crowd of downhill mountain bikers spinning, sliding and crashing their way down the mountain.

While the conditions were not ideal for knobby bike tires (some even with metal studs), with a warming trend making the snow too soft in many spots, the fun level was high.

The downhill event came first with an all out race against the clock. This was followed by a Biker X event with heats of riders going head to head.

It was all coordinated by the folks at Racer's Edge and as soon as they thaw out their bikes, they'll be posting results on their web site ( You can also find more information there on more snow bike events as well as their 2003 Championship Series for both Maryland and Pennsylvania.
