Having fun at the birthday party!
The Party Scoop...
Wisp at Deep Creek Mountain Resort in McHenry, Maryland kicked off it's birthday in style this past weekend and Monday when they rolled back their prices to match their opening prices 48 years ago. Free birthday cake, food and drink specials, and a D.J. in the lounge kept the party going all day long.

Nice Improvements for the 2003/2004 Season..
The large lodge sported a brand new face-lift that reminded this skier of some places out west, and the Wisp hotel was going through some exciting changes as well. But that's just the tip of the iceberg. You've really got to see it for yourself. Keep reading to find out what lies ahead in Wisp's future!

Checking out the new lodge.
Folks could not have asked for better weather thanks to another nor'easter, which was dumping powdery snow by the bucket full in Garrett County. Thre's plenty of the white stuff on the slopes out there, good for turns, tricks, and snowbunnies alike. The lift lines moved quickly thanks to Wisp's new chair lifts. Now both lifts at the bottom of Squirrl Cage (Black Diamond) and Wisp Trail (Beginner) take you to a mid-station and the top of the mountain. It's twice as nice and twice as fast.

What's Open Now? Wisp now has 11 trails open along with their beginner ski carpet, the Savage 2 Terrain Park is open for big air, and chairs lifts 1,2 & 3 are open as well. Bear Claw Snow Tubing Park is also open. Snowmaking is in progress today (Monday, December 15th), on the East Ridge.

Coming Up Next...
Make your plans for the next big Wisp event, New Year's Celebration. This family fun event boasts of tubing in Bear Claw Tube Park from 7 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., a bonfire, BBQ dinner, D.J., and fireworks just to name a few things. Check it out! iPlayOutside will see you there, so look for our cameras!

More Improvements on the Way for Wisp...
In the next few years Wisp will be expanding it's territory like never before. There will be a mountaintop village. This scenic community will be composed of skier services, residences, retail shops and restaurants that will complement nature and the landscape which surrounds them. You will be able to take advantage of over 50 percent more snow terrain called the new North Face. These new trails will delight skiers and snowboarders of at all levels.

More trails and more fun.
In addition to Wisp's expansions, Deep Creek Mountain Resort partners donated land on top of the mountain to build the non-profit Adventure Sports Center International. The first phase has already begun construction. This amazing center will include a re-circulating whitewater course (the first in the United States), an outdoor amphitheater, and a Hall of Fame.

When finished, the Center will include activities such as canoeing and kayaking (whitewater and flat water), rafting, sailing, rock climbing, rappelling, hiking, mountain climbing, mountain biking, Nordic skiing, tobogganing, dog sledding, ballooning and more. The Center will serve to promote, educate and facilitate participation in a wide range of adventure-based recreational activities and competitions creating a destination for fostering economic development and providing a model for communities to manage and capitalize on the natural resource base while protecting its integrity.

Future planned amenities include a mixed-use mountain village with retail and restaurants, and commercial/residential opportunities. The Topside Village will have direct access to the Adventure Sports Center International.
