Run for Mom
An excellent day at FSU
Mother Nature seemed to smiled on all mothers this weekend with warmer weather and sunny skies. Out in Frostburg, Maryland, folks gathered to celebrate outside with their families at the Frostburg State University (FSU) TV-3 Run for Mom Race. This well organized, traffic controlled, out and back course featured a start and finish in FSU's Bobcat statium on the track. Race director Robert Scott was all smiles as racers of all ages lined up ready for the 5K race.

Starting on the FSU Bobcat outdoor track, the 5K course then wound it's way through campus to a paved trail. The trail proceeded through the woods where it then ended in front of the bleachers back at the track.

Run for Mom
Emily Derosa finishing second
Racers of all ages enjoyed the mild temperatures, and loop 5K course. Jaron Hawkins really set some distance between himself and everyone else as he finished fisrt overall with a fast time of 15:50. Bruce Dotson (16:58), kept up his 5:29 pace to place second, and Daniel Dewitt (17:50) came in third in the 5K Run.

Familuar Western Maryland resident and racer, Maureen Hall, placed seventh overall and first for the women with a time of 19:04. Thirteen year old Lauryn Macfawn (21:38) finished second, and Emily Derosa (22:57), crossed the line for third.

Run for Mom
The kids race to the line
D.J. Ritchie (16:34), marched in first in the 2-Mile Walk. Lucas Ritchie came in second, and Nancy Bensley cruised on in for third.

With the family atmosphere flare, and lots of little ones around, it was their turn to strut their stuff. The kids race was a 50 yard dash on the track. Everyone was a winner, as parents and onlookers cheered. There was even a 1-Mile Run, and many of the 5K's fastest racers took part.

After all of the races were over, it was time for the awards ceremony in the FSU Athletics Building. Many prizes were given away, including golf packages, and dinner gift certificates just to name a few. Medals, trophies, and flowers for Mom were also presented. Breakfast foods, and cookies too were gobbled up. It was a generous post-race party. Thanks to the kind folks in Frostburg for donating their time and energy, and to all who made this race a success.
