Heavy rains on race day
The first-ever Tri-State Children's Triathlon took place at the beach at Beech Fork State Park on a very rainy last day of July. Reguardless of the weather, the kids who took part were gung-ho. Even after competing, many were still running, playing, swimming, giving each other noogies, and chowing down on the snacks provided.

To level the playing field, there were three age levels of competition: 7-8 year olds, who swam 50 yards, biked a mile and two-tenths, and ran six-tenths of a mile; 9-11 year olds swam 100 yards, biked 3.5 miles, and ran a mile and two-tenths; and 12-14 year olds swam 200 yards, biked 6.2 miles, and ran 2.4 miles.

Running out of the water
All competitors got a finisher's medal, and those who excelled got their choice of prizes from a heavily laden prize table. Race organizers made it through the day with only one set of parents that complained about the navigation of the course.

Special thanks to Huntington YMCA, HealthyHuntington.org, and EventTech.com and Champion Chip Timing Systems for putting on a fine race.
