Women Fest
A great day for women racers
What a beautiful morning for the Women's Distance Festival, sunny skies, low humidity, and racers ready to run. The race was presented by the US Army, and representatives were on hand to run the 5K through Rocky Gap State Park.

All competitors enjoyed a rolling course along wooded drives and Lake Habeeb. Rugged mountains, Hemlock trees, dense rhododendron surround the lake to create an amazing view for all runners and walkers.

Jennifer Davis of Romney, WV took first place with an impressive finish of 18:19 (5:55). Maureen Hall of Lavale, MD (race director), was fairly close behind her at 18:56 (6:07), and Lynn Bridges of Cumberland, MD finished with her best time this year, 19:43 (6:22). Way to go ladies.

The Men's first place spot was taken by Bruce Dotson of Cumberland, MD 17:20 (5:36), second, David Ritchie of Swanton, MD 19:45 (6:23), and third Tom Chappell of Lavale, MD 19:51 (6:25).

The guys celebrate the day
The kids enjoyed a fun run. As the gun went off they exploded from the starting line with smiles abound. Their run looped around the parking lot once and through the finish area. All were greeted with goodie bags and medals from the Army representatives.

As the racers were finishing, the food was served. Burgers, hotdogs, drinks and music created a party atmosphere for everyone. A short awards ceremony followed as the competitors relaxed in the shade.
