Railtrail Ramble Rounds Out Century Medallion Series

Elkins, WV- It was a sunny, crisp autumn day as more than 50 race participants lined up for the Randolph Railtrail Ramble race behind the Highland Café in Elkins, West Virginia on Saturday, November 13. But the goal of the race wasn't about winning or losing, instead it was about maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

"We want to reward everyone who participates," says Sid Gillispie, interim executive director of the Elkins YMCA. "We really want to get the word out on having a healthy lifestyle." Gillispie was pleased with the number of participants, which was a 40 percent increase from last year. He says that the series will be held again next year.

Racers of all ages participated
The Railtrail Ramble was a 5 mile run/ 5 K walk that benefited the Elkins YMCA. This race was the last in a seven-race series that began in April called the Century Medallion Series to commemorate the Davis & Elkins (D&E) College 100th year of service in the community by encouraging physical fitness and rewarding individuals who have participated in local running and walking events.

The seven-race series included the Ramp Race, Read Carney Memorial, Vince Ross Memorial, Elkins YMCA Race, Ken Cunningham Memorial, Forest Festival Race, and the Railtrail Ramble.
