The setting was beautiful Garrett County, Oakland, Maryland. Quite a quaint, population 2,000 year round, the town features a restored 1884 train station, and the County's Historical Society Museum. A short scenic drive delivers you straight to the heart of town. The race site, Broadford Lake Park, is just outside of town. The fall winds nipped at the leaves, and runners and walkers enjoyed glimpses of sunshine.
Scott Wildesen came away with the overall win in 18:49. David Mertz kept up a good 6:07 pace for second, and Jimmy Kucharczyk rounded out the top spots. All three men are under 21-years of age. The first female was Maureen Hall. She was 9th overall. Hall is an avid local runner and has been a part of the series for years. Lauryn MacFawn claimed second, and Wendy Patterson was third.
The walk had over 20 participants, and Jim Morris was the first to cross the line in 21:59. Janet Hardesty was second overall, and the first female.
The race benefited the local sight and hearing impaired and was presented by the Oakland Mountain Lake Park Lions Club.
