10K . 8:30 am
- Course Challenge ... $1,000 will go to the fastest male or female runner who breaks the current Greater Clarksburg 10K Course Record, which is 28:30 for males (set by James Koskei in 2001) and 32:58 for females (set by Helen Kimaiyo of Kenya in 1997).
- Course Description ... The 10K (6.2 mile) course has been certified and sanctioned by USA Track and Field and will consist of two loops through the residential and business districts. Course Certification # WV97001B. The Clarksburg Police Department will provide traffic control with the help of local volunteers. The entire course will be closed to traffic from 8:00 - 11:00 am.
- Course Rules ... In accordance with the rules and guidelines issued by USA Track and Field It is the intent of the race crew to furnish the safest possible race course. Those who participate in violation of these rules will be disqualified and removed from the course. The guidelines further state "foot runners and authorized vehicles have the right-of-way at all times." No strollers, headphones, bicycles or roller blades are permitted on the course.
- 10K Kick-Off: June 14, 2012 ... Sponsored by Outback Steakhouse ... The Outback Steakhouse will sponsor the Kick-Off Celebration for the 16th Annual Greater Clarksburg 10K. The dinner will be held at the Bridgeport Country Club.
- Awards Ceremony ... Sponsored by Magic 106.5 ... Food and beverages will be available post-race around 11:00 a.m., with the Awards Ceremony to follow around 11:30 a.m.
2 mile RUN . 10 am ... Sponsored by Waste Management
- Begins at approximately 10:00 a.m. near the 10K Start Line. Runners complete two loops in downtown Clarksburg.
- 2M Course Description - Beginning near the same Start Line as the 10K, the runners will proceed down Main Street and turn left onto 2nd Street and over to Pike Street (the same street the 10K runners turn onto) where the runners will once again turn left back over to Main Street and left back to the Start Line. The runners will do this
twice and finish at the Harrison County Court House (same Finish Line as the 10K).
- 2M Awards - Will be given to the top five males and female overall finishers. Each participant will receive a race T-shirt designed just for this event.
2 mile WALK . 10 am ... Sponsored by MCM Business Systems
- This is the non-competitive 2 Mile walkers-only category. Walkers will wear a separate color bib and number and will line up behind the 2 Mile runners at 10 a.m. Walkers will follow the same 2 mile course as the runners. Although the event is non-competitive, walkers will wear a "chip" for timing purposes and finish in the same chute as runners. Each participant will receive a race T-shirt designed just for this event.
Kids K . 10:30 am ... Sponsored by The Exponent-Telegram
- All KidsK participants (age 12 and under) receive a race number, shirt and participation award. Application needed for each participant.
Event Extras
- Father's Day Challenge ... The Greater Clarksburg 10K and 2 Mile host the "Father's Day Challenge." The top three combined times of Father-Son and Father-Daughter will be awarded trophies. There is no additional entry fee for this event. Register when picking up a race packet on June 15 or on Race Day, June 16.
- Alvarez/Atalanta (Weight) Division ... Participants weigh in at Registration or on Race Day from 6:30-7:45 a.m. Awards go to the top three males and females in each
category; ineligible for multiple categories. Male: Light Heavyweight, 180-199; Middle Heavyweight, 200-224; Heavyweight, 225 and over. Female: 140 and over.
- Team Competition ... The Greater Clarksburg 10K encourages friendly team
competition. Registration is FREE, in addition to the entry fee for
each team member. For team applications call 304.624.4100
or email: teams@greaterclarksburg10k.org. Please submit the team application, individual entry form, and all fees together.
Organizations may enter multiple teams. The three fastest times
score. Awards will be given to each team member in corporate
and open categories. Pratt Whitney holds the traveling
corporate trophy. Corporate Teams: 5 members from same
organization. Open Teams: 5 members total.
- Timing & Race Results ... The ChampionChip registers each runner's time from start to finish and gives 5K splits and times throughout the course.
Participants attach the chip to their shoe prior to the race
and turn it in at the Finish Line. Results will be posted at the
Awards Ceremony. Runners without a chip will not be timed.
- Water-First Aid-Showers-Massage ... Water stations will be strategically placed along the course. Shower facilities will be available at the Harrison County
YMCA on Lowndes Hill. A medical tent will be near the Finish Line. Massage for runners will be provided pre-race and postrace by Valarie Dunlevy of "Natural Touch". All 10K finishers will receive a towel.
- Accommodations ... Best Western Bridgeport Inn-Official 10K Run Hotel

official 10K Run Host Hotel, is a full-service facility with a restaurant.

- Free Parking ... Park free on Race Day at the City Parking Garage on Hewes Avenue, located at the Downtown Exit off US Route 50. Other parking lots are available throughout the city.
Honoring Cecil Jarvis
Cecil Jarvis was truly a unique individual ... a "one-of-a-kind." His multifaceted life included being a lawyer, a newspaper publisher, an athlete, a community advocate, a loving husband, a father and a friend. The Greater Clarksburg 10K lost a great supporter and participant with Cecil's death on May 22, 2007.
