A perfect spring day for a run
The cool spring weather this year provided a great morning for the seventh annual Parents' Place 5K. The plentiful sunshine at Jack Roberts Park, in the First Ward neighborhood of Morgantown, was quite an improvement over last year's rain. This factors certainly contributed to a great turnout of runners, walkers, and children who especially enjoyed the Park's playground.

The Parents' Place 5K serves as the second race in the MAGP Series and is also well attended by the Morgantown community of parents and children that are involved with the Parents' Place organization. For more than 25 years, Parents' Place has provided a unique parent-run, non-denominational program open to all parents and their preschool children. All of the proceeds from the race benefit Parents' Place.

It's all about the kids
Brian Menzies (38) and Heather Parks (38) battled it out with youngster Adam Roh (16) for the overall win. Roh led for the first half while Parks led for most of the second half, only to be overtaken by Menzies and Roh in the last 300 meters. Jason Robins (40) rounded out the top 3 for men. On the women's side, returning champion, Laurie Abildso (37), took second this year with Sarah Ray (20) taking third.

During and after the race, the Children's Discovery Museum of West Virginia and Parents' Place provided many fun activities for the children including face painting, games and arts and crafts activities. After all runners and walkers completed the course, there was a Kid's Race for any child who wanted to participate. This now has become a great tradition in Morgantown and continues to grow with more kids joining in the fun every year.
