Animal lovers walk and run to benefit a local no-kill shelter

The question on everyone's mind Saturday, April 9th, was who let the dogs out? The 2nd annual We Run, We Walk, For Webark is a 5K run and walk. All of the race's proceeds benefit Webark Estates, Inc., a non-profit, no-kill animal shelter that was established to rescue animals who are on death row in area pounds. Located in Moundsville, West Virginia, their goal for each animal is adoption, but cats and dogs who are not adopted live their life out at the shelter, receiving the care and love they deserve. Over 150 people came out to show support for this wonderful organization, and the animals it shelters.

Starting behind Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Glen Dale, West Virginia the racers had a flat course to run that looped back around to finish and the sounds of cheering fans. Accompanying some of the walkers were their furry friends, who were the ultimate crowd pleasers. After the race, participants were invited to some refreshments, the sounds of a DJ, and even a little bit of dancing while they waited for the results.

The first male to pass the finish line was 23 year old Dustin Meeker, from Rayland, Ohio finishing with a time of 16:05. Not even a minute behind Dustin came local racer Ed Tullius, 31, of Moundsville, West Virginia finishing with a time of 16:50. Third to cross the line for the guys Matt Marshall (18:26.) Marshall is 40 years young and from Ohio.

As for the ladies, crossing the line first was Harriet Hunter, 35, from New Concord, Ohio with a time of 19:23. Local gal, Lori Abraham (20:56), from Wheeling, WV claimed 2nd place. And third, coming in with a time of 21:16, was Stacey Wiethe, also from Wheeling, WV. After all the festivities everyone was invited to go to The Steak Fry.

For the Record... Reporter, Katy Black, has been roaming the great mountain state with her camera for iPlayOutside, Inc. since 2004. Black is a student at West Virginia University who spends a lot of time with her animal friends, a cat, a dog, and a few fish. An animal lover herself, Black grew up on a farm outside of Morgantown, WV that was always full of animals to love.
