Hosted by the Oakland-Mountain Lake Park Lions Club, this scenic 5K race benefitted the sight and hearing impared of the western Maryland area. Many Queen City Striders and Morgantown Area Grand Prix runners showed up at the start making for good overall numbers and competition.

With the competitive running season coming towards an end, close to 200 runners and walkers showed up at the Autumn Glory race for sight in Oakland Maryland. These runners and walker were treated to fall weather at its best. With the colors nearing peak and the sun sparkling off the lake that the course follows, it is hard to imagine a better setting.

The out and back course was paved and flat providing a relatively fast race. Jaron Hawkins was the first racer to make his way to the finish line, and he did in a dominating fashion. With a time of (16:51) he was nearly two minutes ahead of second place finisher Steven Winters (18:20).

The separation between second and third place finisher Mike Mcconnell (18:48) proved to be a much tighter finish. In the women's division Once again Heather Bury-Parks (19:27) edged out Maureen Hall (19:48) for the women's title. Taking third place in the women's division was Sarah Cosner with a time of (23:22). The walking division was lead by Jim Morris (20:57) closely followed by second place finisher Suzanne Wilburn (21:13) and third place William Obert (22:12).

Coming to western Maryland for anything this time of the year is spectacular. The colors are out of this world, it is worth taking a drive through. Having a race to attend would just be a bonus.

The Autumn Glory Race is a well organized with some solid competition, it is a must come to for all of you diehards out their that are looking for a race in mid October.
