Snowshoe, W.Va. + After a rockin' 4th of July celebration, Snowshoe Mountain is preparing for a hot weekend, and one of the state's most beloved events. The 17th annual Fire on the Mountain Chili Cook-off, July 11-13, will include Verde and Salsa competitions, as well as the weekend's showcase event, the crowning of the Regional Red Chili Champion.

More than 100 chili cooks will compete for over $12,000 in cash and prizes at this tasty affair that has become a regional classic.

Guests will prepare to scorch their taste buds as events kick-off in The Village with arts and crafts and live entertainment all day Friday. After sampling the salsa and verde chili, the party really gets started with the Cook's Kickoff Block Party, including live music by Rick & the Allnighters. Snowshoe favorites, Brothers Short Band will keep the party going all night as the "Warm Up" party turns up the heat at the Connection nightclub.

Saturday the temperature will continue to rise as the red chili cook-off gets underway. Fighting for big money prizes and a trip to the National Cookoff, the heat will be on as chef's from around the region and beyond look to dethrone our three-time champion! The Davisson Brother's Band will keep things cool, as they're joined by other local acts for a second day of live entertainment on the Village Stage.

Guests will compete for bragging rights and prizes in chili pepper eating contests and other themed events during the Great Chili Games, before the weekend comes to a close Saturday evening with the crowning of the regional champion. After the awards ceremony, guests will be treated to a stunning fireworks display, a family-friendly movie viewing party in the Village and the Connection's "Great After Chili Party", where the Davisson Brothers will once again rock the stage.

In addition to the Regional Champion, a "People's Favorite" will be crowned. A portion of the small entrance fee for guests will go to Snowshoe Mountain's adaptive ski program, a non-profit organization part of Challenged Athletes of West Virginia. Chefs can visit the International Chili Society website at www.chilicookoff.com for more information on how to enter the Fire on the Mountain Chili Cook-off.
