Registration includes camping Friday and Saturday nights, Slatyfork Recreational Trail Guide, a commemorative Wild 100 pint glass, food and drink at designated checkpoints, and a Survivor's BBQ Party on Saturday night featuring local brews. Directions: [View the Map]

Elk River is located 5 miles south of WV 66 (Snowshoe turnoff) and 16 miles north of Marlinton on US 219. Look for our light colored "Elk River Inn & Restaurant" sign and turn immediately onto a bridge over the Elk River headwaters.

Course:

The course is up to you and what you think is the best way. Start at Elk River Touring Center at 7 am and check in at six different check points in sequence, always deciding for yourself which trail, dirt road, or paved road is the most efficient for your skill, fitness, and mental state, then finish at the Elk River Touring Center. The entire course should total approximately 100K (62 miles) and have a cumulative elevation gain of nearly 8,000 ft. Trails such as Tea Creek Mountain, Bear Pen, and Red Run will lead you to Sharps Knob, Gay Knob, and deep into the Tea Creek Canyon. Depending on weather conditions the race could very possibly last deep into the night. Bring your lighting systems, food, tools, and most importantly your courage and perseverance.

Mandatory Meeting

A mandatory pre-race meeting will be held on Saturday, August 15th at 6:45 am at Elk River. Riders should attend ready to ride. The Wild 100 will start after the pre-race meeting.

Classes:

Solo Men, Solo Women, Two Person Men, Two Person Women, Two person Man & Woman, First Timers, Over 50, Wild 100 Plus, and Wild 100 Lite. The WILD 100 Plus includes another 15K and an extra checkpoint for those of you who need a little more challenge. The WILD 100 LITE is a shorter 50K version of the race with three checkpoints for those that may be intimidated by 100K+ of Slatyfork's tough singletrack. There will be a men's and women's division.

What you Get:

Registration includes camping on Friday and Saturday nights along the pristine Elk River, a tear proof Slatyfork Recreation Trail Guide, a commemorative Wild 100 pint glass, food and drink at designated checkpoints, a post-race Survivors BBQ Party with local brew favorites, hot showers, and a bike wash area.

The most important part is the confidence and satisfaction of competing in one of the toughest events around the east. This is one of the most popular mountain biking endurance races on the east coast, so register early if you plan to attend.

Teams:

The concept behind a team is to simulate the epic backcountry group ride. Teams should work together to finish together. Leaving teammates behind will not improve your finishing time as it will be based on the last team member to finish. Just like you wouldn't leave your buddy in the woods on a group ride you shouldn't do that here. A team is only as strong as its weakest link. By working together you should be able to go faster and finish together.

Awards:

Prizes from all our great sponsors will be award to the top five competitors in each race class. Awards ceremony will follow the race.

The Area

The Course will be contained within the mapped area of the Slatyfork Recreational Trail Guide. All trails are open and available for your route choices. Singletrack is plentiful here and many of the checkpoint locations will require technical singletrack skills as well as fitness and navigational efficiency. The checkpoints will remain top secret until the morning of the race. This will give no rider an opportunity to pre-ride or plan routes prior to the start of the race. The only preparation would be to familiarize yourself with the area contained within the Trail Guide. Copies of the Slatyfork Recreational Trail Guide can be mail ordered before the race. Slatyfork is known for mile after mile of singletrack which is surely where the race will be won. Elevation gain is expected to near the 8,000' mark and of course will also descend equally as much. This is an endurance event and will be epic for all involved.

Recommended

Each rider should carry food for the entire day, extra clothing for extreme weather changes, lights for riding at night, lots of water, tools, spare parts, map, compass, and waterproof matches. These items are not required but strongly recommended.

People

This race is run by the Elk River Touring Center staff and volunteers. We love to have fun outdoors, especially on bikes and this is another way we have found to join together and enjoy each other and all of you riding mountain bikes.

Information

This race is designed for serious riders who have always wondered why typical races are so short or why sometimes those who can push pedals cannot think for themselves and follow the course or stay on the trail. We have seen that this format has become a model for other endurance, route-finding mountain bike races in the country. We will look for your advice, comments, and questions after the race. Please feel free to let the folks at ERTC know what you think.
