Making Connections 5K
This is an evening run from Veteran's Square in downtown Fairmont to the Veteran's Memorial Bridge (and back) along the Fairmont's new "Gateway Connector." All proceeds benefit Veteran's Scholoarships at Pierpont Community & Technical College.

Starts at 6:30 PM.

This first annual race kicks-off the inauguration festivities for Pierpont President, Dr. Doreen Larson.

5 Weeks to 5K Class

Whether this is your first race or you are a seasoned pro, join the crew for the instruction, training and support you need to go the distance. Free long-sleeve shirt and gloves for all participants. Proceeds support Veterans' Education.

Course

    5k Run

    The 3.1 mile, out and back, course begins at Veterans' Square (corner of Adams and Madison Streets). After 1 block up Adams Street, runners turn left onto Jefferson Street, crossing the Mollohan Bridge. At Merchant Street racers will proceed on the new recreation/bike path, paralleling the "Gateway Connector," uphill toward the Veterans' Memorial Bridge. At this point the course will loop near the Vietnam Veterans' Helicopter Memorial, returning runners along the same path back to the finish at Veterans' Square Plaza.

    2 Mile Fun Walk

    Walkers will start with and follow the same course as the 5k, until the 1 mile mark (near the second "round about"). At that point, walkers will be directed to turn around and return along the same course to the finish at Veterans' Square Plaza.

    Kids' K

    The Kids' K course is approximately 250 yards in length. The course will use the common start at Veteran's Square and continue 1 block to the Court House, before returning to the finish line on the Veteran's Square Plaza.

  • 6:30 pm - 5k and 2 Mile Races Begin
  • 7:15 pm - Awards & Post-Race Reception

Awards

Attractive commemorative awards will be presented to the top overall men's and women's finishers in the Making Connections 5k, as well as the top 3 finishers in each division.

In addition, all 5K and 2 Mile participants pre-registered by March 14th are guaranteed a "Making Connections 5K" race shirt and commemorative Pierpont Presidential Inauguration Award. All participants are also entitled to unlimited post-race refreshments and will be eligible for door-prizes to be given away during the post-race reception.

All Kids' K runners will receive a "#1" race bib and commemorative finisher medal!

    Start is located adjacent to the new, downtown City Parking Garage, right by Veteran's Square in Fairmont, WV. Parking available in garage. Registration in the Veteran's Square Building, Downtown Fairmont, Lower Level - Hull Alley entrance.

Directions

FROM I-79 . . . Take Exit 136 (Downtown). At light, turn left and proceed downhill toward Fairmont. Proceed across the Jefferson Street / Mollohan Bridge and continue to Adams Street. Turn Right onto Adams Street (one way). The start will be 1 block ahead, at the corner of Adams and Madison Streets. Park at the City Garage directly across from the Veterans' Square Plaza, and adjacent to the Start and Finish Line.
