ALL race registration fees go toward a small grant program used to fund community or educational environmental projects. This annual event is part of Impact E.A.R.T.H. (Environmental Awareness and Respecting Tomorrow's Home), which draws attention to our environment and local efforts to improve it.

RUN Awards -- 10K/5K

The 10K/5K Run awards will be presented to the first three male and female finishers in the age categories indicated below, and to the overall top three male and female finishers in the following age groups:

Under 10, 11-15, 16-20, 21-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & over

WALK Awards -- 5K

The 5K Walk awards will be presented to the top two male and female finishers in the age categories indicated below, and to the overall top two male and female finishers in the following age groups:

19 & Under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 & Over

FUN RUN Awards (ages 10 & under)

Event History

Great awards that grow!

Since the 1990s, the Board of Park and Recreation Commissioners of Morgantown (BOPARC), the Monongalia County Solid Waste Authority (MCSWA), and the WV Department of Environmental Protection (WVDEP) have worked together on our local WV Make-it-Shine Community Cleanup Event. This event went through several phases, being known as the Trash Bash, Son of the Trash Bash, and finally, Project Pride.

Poor weather and dwindling community involvement caused them to re-think our community cleanup effort. A team of volunteers from BOPARC, the Dominion Post, MUB, & the MCSWA met and planned an event to attract more volunteers and include more community environmental partners. The team moved the date of the event closer to Earth Day, and re-named this new and exciting event Impact E.A.R.T.H. (Environmental Awareness & Respecting Tomorrow's Home). Impact E.A.R.T.H. is a comprehensive event that helps draw attention to our environment and the local efforts to improve it.

The Earth Day 10K/5K was organized to create awareness about the wide variety of environmental issues and to inform our county residents of what they can do locally to help our Earth. All race registration fees go toward a small grant program used to fund community or educational environmental projects.
