Join us for the 4th Annual Pierpont Veterans 5K (formerly Making Connections 5k) as we raise more money to support Veterans Education, Services and Scholarships. Enjoy a challenging course, a festive atmosphere, excellent post race refreshments, and generous sponsors. "Climb the Connector" in one of the toughest 5ks anywhere!

Mascot Invitational

Introducing the second annual Mascot Invitational! Pierpont invites all area schools and businesses to join in a fun, spirited, and memorable race to take place immediately following the Kids K. RSVP your mascot at 304 367 4920

Kids K

Kids K participants will start at Veterans Square and run to the Court House, approximately 200 yards, then return to the finish. All runners will receive a #1 race bib, Pierpont Veterans 5k race shirt, and commemorative finisher's medallion. Registration is FREE! Race begins at 6:15 pm. Additional childrens activities will be available throughout the main events.

Beat the President

Back by popular demand! All runners have the chance to Beat the President. Any runner who can finish ahead of Pierpont President, Dr. Doreen Larson, will take home a special gift donated by one of our sponsors. Just a warning, Doreen is an avid runner who is used to winning. So train hard and catch her if you can!!!

5K Run Awards

Commemorative awards will be presented to the top overall mens and womens finishers in the Making Connections 5k, as well as the top 2 finishers in each division. All participants pre registered by March 20th are guaranteed a Pierpont Veterans 5k race shirt. All athletes are also entitled to postrace refreshments and eligible for door prizes to be awarded after the event.

Course Description ... FEEL THE BURN!

The challenging 3.1 mile, out and back, course begins at Veterans Square (corner of Adams and Madison Streets). After 1 block up Adams Street, runners turn left onto Jefferson Street, crossing the Mollohan Bridge. At Merchant Street all racers start heading sharply uphill on the recreation/bike path paralleling the Gateway Connector. A municipal park is the site of the 1 mile mark. This is where walkers will turn around and runners will wish they were walkers! Grab a drink at the water/aid station as you enter the steepest part of the course - the final climb toward WaveTec Park and Fairmonts Vietnam War and Korean War (under construction) Memorials. The course loops at the top of the hill, returning runners back down along the same path. Make sure you save enough energy for the final climb before you turn toward the finish on the Veterans Square Plaza.

    Start is located adjacent to the new, downtown City Parking Garage, right by Veteran's Square in Fairmont, WV. Parking available in garage. Registration in the Veteran's Square Building, Downtown Fairmont, Lower Level - Hull Alley entrance.

Directions

FROM I-79 . . . Take Exit 136 (Downtown). At light, turn left and proceed downhill toward Fairmont. Proceed across the Jefferson Street / Mollohan Bridge and continue to Adams Street. Turn Right onto Adams Street (one way). The start will be 1 block ahead, at the corner of Adams and Madison Streets. Park at the City Garage directly across from the Veterans' Square Plaza, and adjacent to the Start and Finish Line.
