Christine Lewis heads to the finish
Glen Dale resident Carson Schambach easily won the fifth edition of the Webark 5K Run & Walk with a scintillating time of 16:54.

The eighteen year old was challenged by veteran roadrunner Ed Tullius (17:36) and fellow teenager Brandon Jazeczko (17:43), but sealed his victory with a furious kick to the finish line behind Reynolds Memorial Hospital.

On the distaff side, Martins Ferry's Chrissy Lewis reprised last year's victory with a time of 19:45. Angie Zambito, who recently returned to Wheeling after a year in North Carolina, followed in 20:56, while Dillonvale resident Diane Basich took third place in 21:44.

Under sunny and temperate springtime conditions, Tony Purpura (24:46) knocked off four minutes from last year's time to repeat as male walk champ.

Mouse Yoker (28:45) and David Workman (31:54) claimed second and third respectively, matching last year's rankings.

Helping animals in the area, Webark and Auggies
Sherry Alig, who took second place honors last year, won the women's walk event in 33:02. Brenda Colvin followed in 33:42, and Karen Samrany finished third overall in 37:11.

One hundred sixty-three runners and walkers participated in this year's event, which featured a flat, out-and-back course. A few canines walked the 5K, which benefits Webark Estates, a no-kill animal shelter located in Moundsville, WV.

From the Editor . . . The Webark 5K is just one of a few races Tom Rownd organizes. This year will be the 10th anniversary for the Auggie's 5K Run and Walk.

iPlayOutside has been to all the Auggie's races and we're proud to be a part of the 10th on Saturday, October 18, 2008 in Wheeling, WV.
